Between 2016 and 2018 developers using subscriptions saw earnings grow 4X. It is clear that subscriptions are an increasingly popular way for developers to monetize apps and games, and for users to access content and services. However, to be successful you have to find the right combination of offering and price. This episode's guests are Holly Ackerman and David Berlin from DAZN, who share insights about the challenges involved in setting up a subscription-based sports streaming service. DAZN is building the world’s largest and fastest growing live sports streaming service. With the sport schedule disrupted, the global roll-out to more than 200 countries and territories is slated for later this summer.

Holly Ackerman is Head of Business Development for Global Platforms at DAZN, which was named the leading sports app by consumer spend for 2019 by mobile analytics platform App Annie. Holly is responsible for managing DAZN’s distribution strategy across its platform partners and app stores. Since joining DAZN in 2016, Holly has overseen the streaming service’s successful launch in 9 markets including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Canada, and the U.S. With over 10 years’ experience in the media and entertainment industry, Holly has previously held roles at Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros, and Lime Communications.

David Berlin is VP of Product, Engagement, Mobile, Media & Portals, & Operating Tools at DAZN. David leads the definition and delivery of DAZN’s browse and content discovery interface across all platforms, and oversees the end-to-end mobile app experience. As a founding team member of DAZN, David has overseen the launch and rapid growth of two of the world’s most successful OTT streaming services. Previously, in his role at the BBC, he led the team that launched the iPlayer for iPhone and Android tablets, and managed the introduction of contemporary features such as downloads. With over 20 years’ experience in the media and broadcasting sector, David has worked in mobile development since the early days of app stores.
